How To Make Creamy Almond Milk

Yummy Almond Milk

I would love to share the reasons why you would want to substitute almond/sesame seed milk for cow’s milk, but I’ll blog about that another time. Today I just want to share with you the wonders of Almond Milk!

You need 1 part raw almonds (soaked for 4 hours and rinsed), 4 parts water and a blender. Ta-da! Almond Milk!

This is a basic recipe; you could add vanilla seeds and raw cacao for a chocolaty drink or use it in your next smoothy with bananas and berries. You can be as adventurous as you like. The sky is the limit really!

Recipe:

1 cup almonds (raw, soaked for 4 hrs and rinsed)
4 cups water (filtered or spring)
Sweetener to taste (Agave syrup, dates or honey)

Put your almonds and water in a power blender and blend away! You will see a beautiful froth forming on top and your water will turn white! Lovely to see. Who would have thought that nuts could do this?

Once you have blended it up, strain it through a nut milk bag. (Send me a note if you want to know where I got mine from)

It is almost like milking a cow! **grin** Kids LOVE to do this part. The milk is lovely and white and creamy!

With the left over pulp you can make yummy biscuits.

If you are concerned about not getting enough calcium in, then blend up sesame seeds and water and use that instead.

Now how about a lovely cup of chai tea with almond milk?

I like the sound of that.

  1. Can’t believe this is so simple. I’m spending a fortune in the Health Food shop on a ready made product for DD yet I could be doing this myself. Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing your lovely-sounding recipe :)

Okay… The milk tastes so good, I thought ‘Almond’ was the name of a cow and sesame the name of a goat :)

  3. Thanks @Mrs Green! Just love your blog and what you are doing! I first read your blog through Mark Boyle’s ‘The Moneyless Man’ and thought it really amazing. I am trying to go zero waste…hopefully soon I’ll succeed! ;-)

    @Phil you are funny!

  4. Wow, that magic! I don’t use milk substitutes often, but when I do I’m going to try this!
