Living ‘Closer’ to Nature

Walking in nature

Walking in nature

We don’t hike, we don’t canoe and we don’t do any ‘natury’ stuff. Except for a bicycle ride now and again or the odd surf (more the hubby than me)

Why?

Well, the reasons are: 1. We don’t have hiking boots. 2. We don’t have money to buy or hire a canoe. Uh?

Blah! Are those really good enough reasons?

I really want to get closer to nature.

I want to spend more of my time in it to listen to it. I want to be educated by it. I want to tap into the raw energy that nature is. I want to feel part of it and that I belong.

We moved away from the hustle and bustle exactly a year ago and even though we are moving around like little gypsies at the moment. We find this side of the world filled with a unique kind of energy. Rich in heritage and lots of ‘natury’ stuff to explore.

Crossing the Bridge

Crossing the Bridge

A two minute walk takes you to this beautiful site. Locally it is better known as the Noordhoek Common; a common place where people can enjoy nature and gather. Beautiful oak trees surrounding it and you are free to walk your dog. They even have little doggie-poop bags as you enter. Sooo thoughtful. ;-)

There is a stream running through it and it is a lovely place for an imaginative child. We have visited this place before with the kids to play a game of soccer or cricket.

We even had our birthday here. (I share my birthday with my son) It was free and it was ‘natury’. I was happy. ;-)

I wish there were more spaces like this. We have forgotten how it feels to have gorgeous spaces around us and the joy they bring. No charge at all and no fancy gear needed.

I want to help create these spaces!

What glorious space do you have near you and do you spend time there?
